Shaker cards are a favourite of mine to make for birthday cards, and slimline card sizes mean I get to use more sequins! I mix a lot of Catherine Pooler stamps and dies to make this special card.  Click on any underlined word to find the products I use to make this card in the shop.

Making the background

Firstly, ink blend a 4×8.5″ card front with Pixie Dust ink and a blending brush for a soft amount of colour.

Stamp a “happy birthday” repeatedly all over the with the same Catherine Pooler ink pad, therefore making your own patterned paper, and stagger the stamping to create a more natural pattern.  Also, stamp the same “happy birthday” on white card to use as a sentiment.

Secondly, die cut the scalloped frame die with the three circle die from the stamped patterned paper. Use lots of tape to hold the dies in place so nothing shifts while this is die cut. Helping keep those long sides of slimline dies straight.

Stamping and colouring

I stamp three dragonflies onto Bristol smooth card and colour with Grape Crush ink and a blender pen, then die cut with the coordinating dies.

Top folding card base

Trim two pieces of card to use as a card base, one at 3×8″ and one at 3×8.5″.  Adhere the circle die cut to the smaller piece through the scalloped die cut piece and make a shaker well around each circle with two layers of foam tape.  Then adhere vellum behind the scalloped card.

Pour in (a lot) of sparkly silver sequin mix into each shaker well and attach the scalloped panel.

Score the longer card base piece at 1/2″ from one short side, and then adhere the scored flap to the card base, therefore making a top folding slimline card base.

Finishing the card

Next, adhere the Happy Birthday sentiment in two parts in the middle circle, and foam mount the dragonflies.  Finish by adding more Crater Lake sequins in the different sizes for more sparkle – I use 15 sequins on this card.

Do you make shaker slimline cards often? I save them for special occasions.  I hope you enjoy the video process and have subscribed to our channel.  Head to the shop for the products I use for this card, and find all the Card Making Essential supplies here.
