Hello, today I have a bright and fun slimline card featuring the Doxie Birthday Party stamp set. I use the wrong side of my stamps to create a fun background with Catherine Pooler inks. Watch the video tutorial below. Click on any underlined word to find that product in the shop.

Happy Birthday Card – 4×9”

Backward Stamping

Stamp with the wrong side of two of the stamps to create a background – I call this “backward stamping”. I use Garden Party, Lime Rickey and Grass Skirt, with It’s A Boy and Something Borrowed for the sky.

Rotate the stamps and overlap to create an overlapping pattern. Don’t forget about 2nd generation stamping to have more tones of colour. Leave some white card showing in the sky to act as clouds.

Solid Stamping

The Pucker Up, Orange Twist and Limoncello stamped balloons are popped up on foam squares with some flat to the card. I draw a black line from the balloons to the dog’s mouth for the balloon strings – you could also use the stamp in the stamp set.

The dogs are Icing On The Cake and Sandcastle with Rockin Red for the present and party hat. (The dogs will fit easily on the 4.25×4.25” stamping blocks). My idea is the dog with the party hat is the one celebrating his/her birthday. I place this dog to fit around the sentiment and add a few balloons to flow above the sentiment.

Finished Card

I adhere this to an slimline card base made from strong 130lb card and my card is finished. Share your cards with “backwards stamping” in the Paper Tree Tribe and tag us on Instagram.

This slimline card is part of an Instagram hop (ends 4 August 2021). The Little Paper Tree are celebrating Milly’s 3rd Gotcha Day and saying thank you to Catherine Pooler. Visit @shopthelittlepapertree and hop along for more inspiration using the Make A Wish release.
