White on white with the Folkstar die w/video by Jeni

Tone-Folkstar-5Hi, I’m back with two more cards using the Folkstar cover plate die by Catherine Pooler Designs for some inlay diecutting and tone on tone cards.  I make two A2 sized cards using the slimline die. Find the first two slimline card tutorial here. Don’t forget to join the Paper Tree Tribe to share your cards with us. Watch the video tutorial here on YouTube, or just below.

Die Cutting

To start, I die cut the Folkstar cover plate die twice from bright white Neenah 80lb card. The first card is a landscape orientation. I kept all the inside pieces of the die to use for the in-lay diecutting technique.

In-lay technique

I adhere a sheet of Scor Tape behind the die, then lined up the middle star with the middle of a card base. (My die cut adhered at an angle! Don’t worry, I will fix this later).

At this point, I wasn’t sure if I wanted all the star pieces popped up with foam tape. Thinking I would try to put tiny pieces of foam behind every die cut piece (how difficult could it be?) So pounced my antistatic powder bag over the exposed adhesive. This takes the stickiness away.

Trimming my foam squares in half, I placed the foam on the card base and popped on a star piece. I decided not to even try cutting foam tiny enough for those smaller pieces. With liquid glue, I adhered each piece back into the die cut.

Fixing the crooked-ness

I did work on a card base, but need to trim my card so the die cut is straight. Then adhered to another A2 sized card base.

Portrait card

The other card, in portrait, was much easier and quicker to make. I learnt a lot from the first card. First, I adhere a piece of Scor Tape sheet behind the die cut, then add all the die cut pieces to the exposed adhesive.  Popping up the middle stars with foam tape. Then adhere straight to a card base, and trim off any overhang. I use Neenah 110lb as the card base.

Both cards are finished with a sentiment from Happy Birthday Many Ways stamp set and embellishments by Trinity Stamps. One in the middle of the stars, and two around the sentiment. Boiled Sugar for the first card, and Midnight Ball for the second card. I have one more tutorial making two cards using the same slimline die for you next week.
