Hi, I need to make some more thank you cards and I’m trying my best to stay away from more feminine colours. The stamps in the Big Thanks stamp set are designed for solid stamping in coloured inks but I am a little obsessed with wanting to colour everything at the moment so had to find a way to colour with this stamp set. There is a video tutorial for this card over at YouTube.
SECOND GENERATION STAMPING
To be able to colour over the letters I need to stamp in a light colour. I use the Hot Tub ink colour – which is a light cool shade of blue/green, stamping onto a scrap piece of card first before stamping on my card. Today I am working on a card base made from Canson XL Bristol card.
Using three green pencils – a dark, midtone and light for the colouring. I start with the darker colour and colour the bottom third of the letters, blend in the midtone then blend in the lightest shade for the top third of the letters. Colouring over the letters to deepen the colour. I work on one letter at a time.
I did the same second generation stamping for the sub sentiment “For All You Do”. This was a little tricky to see the outlines for the letters and I had a stamped image near me to be able to check that I am colouring letters were correct. Lightly tracing the outlines first to make sure each letter is correct. This is all in the dark shade of green pencil.
Next, I felt that this card needed something to fill the space on either side of the sub sentiment. I stamped a flower from the Wings of Joy stamp set with Melon Ice ink, again as the second generation. Lightly tracing the curves of the petals before filling in the petals. Finally, the leaves are the same second generation stamping and coloured with the mid-tone green and light green.
