The Made With Love stamp set by Trinity Stamps is not a Christmas themed set but it is perfect for my needs. I finished a crocheted blanket (started in September 2018) and want a custom gift tag and a matching Christmas card.
If you’d prefer to watch the process (either here on the blog or over on YouTube) the video is below, but read on for the written tutorial.
Shaped Card
The base for both my card and tag is the Coffee Mug Card die also by Trinity Stamps. For the gift card I have the handle on the left, and the handle on the right for the card. I tape off the back with purple tape and use Catherine Pooler inks from the Zen Garden collection.
Tone on tone stencilling
Ink blending over the whole front first. Seafoam for the green gift tag and Stone Blue for the blue Christmas card. I covered the handle with purple tape and pick a stencil by Catherine Pooler. Elaine used the Pop Art stencil a week ago, and inspired me to get this stencil out of my ‘stencil box’. I use the same ink colours for a tone on tone look.
Colouring
I have most of the Zen Garden inks out on my desk, and want to pick colours that will match the colours in my crochet blanket. I use Sugared Lavender, Daydream and Polished for the blanket the girl is knitting, her clothing and the hats. The dog and the girl’s hair is Icing on The Cake. Sand Castle with a touch of Polished for the skin tone.
With the Coffee Mug card die are the oval shape for the drink in the mug (and a Gift Card holder die). We both drink a lot of coffee and green tea here at TLPT HQ. (Milly drinks water). I tried the Green Tea ink colour to make a green tea drink – but the green clashed with the blue. The recipient for this card doesn’t like hot chocolate, but Icing On The Cake looked best with the colours I’ve used.
Finishing the card
The stamped image is popped up with foam tape on both cards. For the gift tag I triple stamp the sentiment from the Made With Love stamp set in Stone Blue, Seafoam and Sugared Lavender. (I love that Trinity Stamps made coordinating dies for their sentiments). I felt the Made With Love just didn’t work right on the Christmas card, so adhere, with liquid glue, all the diecut sentiments to the gift tag.
The sentiment “Keep Warm & Snuggle Up” from the Cuddle Weather Sentiment stamp set is just the perfect sentiment for the gift! It is stamped four times with the same Stone Blue ink used on the background. I adhere the gift tag closed and will find a piece of twine to make a hanger.
