Beautiful Floral card in purple w/video by Jeni

I love floral stamps and I couldn’t wait to use the Beautiful Day Floral stamp from the Beautiful New Year release by Catherine Pooler Designs.  I team it with Queen For A Day ink to make a richly coloured purple card for a birthday coming up next month.

Watch the video process below and read on for the written process.

Colouring with CP inks

Stamp onto Bristol Vellum card with Midnight ink and colour with the Queen For A Day ink colour.  I gently push down on the closed ink pad to transfer some colour to the inside of the lid.

Both flowers are coloured with the same ink colour – the lower flower uses less colour for a lighter look.  I use the Blender pen by Zig to pick up the colour and blend onto the card.

The leaves are Green Tea ink and Eucalyptus ink, with Sauna ink for the middles of the flowers.  I die cut this with the coordinating die and put this to the side.

Ink blending and partial stencilling

I die cut the Diagonal Stripes cover plate die twice – once from Neenah Solar White card and once from Bristol Vellum card.  On the Bristol card, I popped the stripes back into the correct space and held them place with purple tape. (My original plan was to use the Solar White frame – but I end up using the purple ink blended frame).

With a blending brush, I add the Queen For A Day so most of the colour is coming from behind the floral image and fading out towards the edges of the card.

I remove the outer frame of the die – keeping the stripes on the purple tape.  Then place the Loop Braid stencil over and lightly ink blend with the same purple colour.  On the frame die cut I add more Queen For A Day to darken the colour of this card.

Adding the sentiment

I stamp the sentiment “Hope your day is as beautiful as you are” onto white card and trim smaller.  This looked a little too stark against all the purple ink blending.  I use the ink that is already on the brush to add some colour to the edges of this sentiment piece.

Finishing with drops

Next, I adhere the outer die cut frame to an A2 sized card base, and the stripes flat to the card.  The floral image is popped up with some foam tape, with the sentiment being flat to the card.

I finish this card with some Boiled Sugar embellishment drops by Trinity Stamps. I love using these little drops for the transparent and waterdrop look. Using the Tidy Tray to keep them all together on my desk and to easier pour back into the container.  These are adhered with a small dot of liquid glue.

The Beautiful New Year was released yesterday (9th Dec) and Catherine Pooler releases do not tend to stay around long!  I will be heading into the stock room soon to start packing all your orders ready to be posted tomorrow (11th Dec).  Don’t forget to share your cards with us at the Paper Tree Tribe on Facebook and tag us #thelittlepapertree over at Instagram.
