Love Birds (not just for Valentines Day) by Janet

Hi, Janet here again with another two cards using the Stamp Of Approval Adoring You collection. Please click here to find more inspiration using this SOA box on the blog and YouTube. I used two stamp sets and one add on die for these cards – which will be listed and linked with the supply list below.  Clicking on any green word will take you to that product in the shop.

Mixing Ink Collections

Don’t be afraid to mix your Party and Spa inks together.  They are designed to work within their families (Party Collection, Spa Collection and Neutral Collection) but will still work all together for even more colour options.

The Love Notes is a 6×6 red rubber stamp with beautiful scripty love themed sentiments and words.  The Happy Together clear stamp set is a layering stamp set.  There are two birds with a solid stamp and a detail stamp.  There is one branch and layering stamps for flowers and leaves.  The “love you” sentiment is beautiful! and has a coordinating die in the Happy Together Add On Dies.

Love on a Branch

Background Stamping

I used Catherine Pooler cardstock trimmed to A2 size, and inked the Love Notes red rubber stamp all over with Over Coffee ink. I took my card to the stamp. Place a sheet of copy paper and press all over to ensure the ink transfers to the panel without getting inky fingers.  Lift off panel and place to one side.  I love all the scripts love notes in this background stamp – it is quickly becoming a favourite at The Little Paper Tree HQ.

Adding The Branch

On another panel of Catherine Pooler card, I stamped the branches with Icing On The Cake then die cut the branches out. Then I placed this branch where I thought it would go on my stamped panel and stamped the solid leaf stamp directly onto the background inked panel in a Garden Party.  Using Spruce as the colour for the solid lines detail stamp.

Stamping The Birds

I die cut both of the birds and then stamped them with a light colour and then stamped the feathers of the birds in a darker colour. Its A Boy and Daydream for the blue bird and Rose Petals and Peppermint Scrub for the pink bird.

Finishing The Cards

Placing liquid glue on the back of the branch I adhered this to the card panel on the left hand side, making sure the leaves were in the correct place. With foam tape to adhere the birds to the branch to give some dimension however, the tail of the pink bird was placed underneath one of the branches with liquid glue.

The sentiment ‘In other words Happy Anniversary’ is from the Happy Together stamp set and stamped in Icing on the Cake.  This was cut to a smaller size and adhered to the panel with foam tape. Finally adhering to an A2 sized card. If you mask off the top or back of a Catherine Pooler Card base you could stamp on the card base and not on a piece of card.  There isn’t much dimension or layers to make this too heavy to be directly onto a card base.

Lovey Dovey

My second card also uses the Love Notes background in It’s a Boy ink. I stamped this the same way as above but in portrait orientation.

Stamping The Birds

The birds were first diecut, then stamped with Twilight ink for the solid stamp and Black Jack ink for the details. I also die cut the ‘Love You’ from black cardstock three times and adhere together using liquid glue.

Stamping the Love You stamp on white card with Versamark ink and poured on some embossing powder. I used the Something Borrowed glitter embossing powder’ inspired by Catherine Pooler by WOW from the Home For The Holidays Stamp Of Approval box.  Tapping off any of the excess powder and heat set until it was all shiny and glittery.  Diecut this out and adhere to the black diecuts slightly off centre to give a shadow effect.

Finishing The Card

Adhere the sentiment in the center of my card so the birds could sit each side on the trailing lines. To give the birds dimension I used foam tape, and finally I adhered this to an A2 pre-scored cardbase.  The list of products I used are just below.
